And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. Revelation 21.3
A family not an event
The Bible frequently talks about church and Christians as being family. In particular, the book of Galatians speaks about believers as being ‘adopted’ into God’s family, with the same Father in heaven, being made brothers and sisters in Jesus.
“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters”
2 Cor 6.18 from 2 Samuel 7:14; 7:8
Our vision is therefore to BE a family, and to ensure that GCB is a family to belong to, not an event to attend.
Our church gatherings are not a show or performance where some take part and everyone else spectates. They are family get-togethers, where we have fun, friendship, arguments, teasing, and where we learn together and grow together as the family of God.
A Battleship not a Cruise Ship
As a family, therefore, we all muck in. That’s when family works best. God has given each of particular gifts, resources, and abilities and he tells us we are to use these to the benefit of one another.
That’s why we place such importance on Serving, Giving, and Praying.
There are no sun loungers on a Battleship – even the Captain is hard at work! And as we follow our ‘captain’, Jesus, who served the whole world with his very life, our vision is to be a family who serves Him and each other, to the glory of God.
A Church, not an expression
As a church plant we will be unashamedly a church. Whilst we recognise that people have various levels of knowledge about Christianity or experience of going to church (including some who have never set foot in a church before), we believe that people still have expectations of what a church will be like.
At GCB we don’t want to dupe people into thinking we’re anything other than a church. If people come along we believe they will expect there to be singing, Bible, praying, and the name Jesus to be said a fair bit! So no surprises when you come to GCB.
